Over 12,000 votes have already been cast for the Yorkshire Choice Awards, in association with Martin House, to celebrate Yorkshire achievement.

Recognising local achievers, The Yorkshire Choice Awards aims to honour the region’s finest local organisations and individuals.

With a record amount of votes cast to date, the duo behind the awards – Melanie Malcolm and Jo Maltby – have a long verification process ahead of them once voting closes on 29th February.

‘We’ve had a phenomenal response to the awards so far: proof that Yorkshire really does thrive on amazing people!’ said Jo Maltby, founder of Handpicked Local and champion of local businesses through #WetherbyHour. ‘We’re proud to be representing a truly exceptional list of nominees, and the number of votes cast to date aptly reflects everyone’s incredible contribution in their community.’

The Yorkshire Choice Awards’ nominations list represents the most inspirational local organisations, entrepreneurs and individuals. With hundreds of local heroes up for an award, voters can only make one selection per category: no easy decision!

The team behind the awards have chosen Martin House as this year’s charity. The local hospice, which supports the families of children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, relies primarily on the donations and fundraising of the Yorkshire community.

The Yorkshire Choice Awards take place at The Centenary Pavilions, Leeds Utd. Football ground, on 2nd April 2016. The black-tie ceremony, with gala dinner and live music, will be hosted by influential regional journalist and broadcaster, Christa Ackroyd.
