Halloween is great fun for many people. Although it’s roots are traditionally Pagan, this celebration has been adopted the world over and children love to dress up in costumes and make-up and go round local neighbours ‘trick or treating’ whilst adults party into the small hours !
However, not everyone likes Halloween and there are some who do not want to participate in these celebrations and that’s ok – but their choice must be respected too. After all, you don’t want to disturb elderly households or those with poorly people etc…
It is a local tradition that homes with a lit pumpkins outside their doors are happy for ‘trick or treaters’ to knock. If you are unsure and cannot see any pumpkin or lights on just walk on to the next house – let the kids play “spot the lantern” as it makes a great fun game for them.
If you would prefer not to participate, we have a series of posters from North Yorkshire Police which you can print out and maybe display one of them in your window or on your door on the evening to let people know if you don’t want to be disturbed.
